FSSC 22000 Certification | GFSI Recognized Food Safety Management System Certification

Food Safety System Certification (FSSC) 22000 – Version 6.0

Food safety has become a global priority, driven by consumer expectations, regulatory requirements, and supply-chain demands. FSSC 22000 is a GFSI-recognized Food Safety Management System designed to ensure the highest level of food safety across the food industry.

FSSC 22000 provides a robust framework that combines:

  • ISO 22000 (Food Safety Management System requirements)
  • PRP Standards (ISO/TS 22002 series)
  • Additional FSSC Requirements

It is widely accepted by multinational brands, retailers, and international regulatory agencies.

What is FSSC 22000 Certification?

FSSC 22000 is a complete, internationally recognized scheme for Food Safety Management Systems. It includes:

  •  ISO 22000
  • Sector-specific PRPs (ISO/TS 22002-1/2/4/6, etc.)
  • Additional FSSC 22000 requirements

This makes FSSC one of the most comprehensive food safety schemes in the world.

The certification is governed by the FSSC Foundation and recognized by GFSI (Global Food Safety Initiative) — making it more globally accepted than ISO 22000 alone.

Certification process

The certification process begins with the application stage, where the organization provides information needed to prepare the audit plan. A Stage 1 audit is then conducted to evaluate the documented food safety system, confirm the scope and assess readiness for the full evaluation. Stage 2 is the main audit, carried out at the operational site, to verify the implementation and effectiveness of the Food Safety Management System in accordance with the FSSC 22000 requirements. If the organization conforms, certification is granted.

Surveillance audits are conducted annually during the three-year certification cycle. These audits evaluate operational controls, compliance with FSSC requirements, changes in processes and the overall performance of the system. After three years, a full recertification audit is conducted to review the entire system and renew the certificate for the next cycle.
